Qigong

Qigong roughly translates as 'energy work' or 'skill working with the body's energy's'. It is a practice that is many thousands of years old, originating in China.

There are many 'forms' or 'styles' of qigong but the basic premise is the same, to work with the body's energies to create a balanced and harmonious flow.

There are numerous benefits of practising Qigong, however, the most common benefits include: an overall feeling of relaxation and improved wellbeing. Qigong can also improve overall vitality, energy levels and boost the immune system.

What will a class be like?

Each class will begin with a number of 'loosening' or gentle 'stretching' exercises to prepare the body for the qigong exercises. These have the additional benefits of relaxing the mind and increasing awareness, which helps to deepen the practice.

A number of movements or postures will then be performed, which help to improve the energy or 'chi' flow through the body's channels or 'meridians'.

The movements of qigong are gentle and as such, suitable for everyone, irrespective of age, health or ability.
