Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi Chuan is one of the three 'internal' styles of traditional Chinese Martial Arts. The other two styles being Hsing Yi Chuan and Bagua Zhang.

The style of Tai Chi Chuan that I offer was developed by Wang Shu Jin, a master of all three internal styles. The form is comprised of 99 movements and the practice also incorporates 'post-standing qigong' or zhan zhuang, push hands and martial arts applications.

What will a class be like?

Each class will begin with a number of 'loosening' or gentle 'stretching' exercises to prepare the body. These have the additional benefits of relaxing the mind and increasing awareness.

Following these, a variety of 'standing qigong' or zhan zhuang postures will be practiced, an integral part of the Cheng Ming system developed by Wang Shu Jin.

The majority of the class will then focus upon learning a small sequence of movements, which over time, will enable one to practice the full sequence of 99 movements contained in the form.

Once students have reached a sufficient level of practice, push hands and martial arts applications will also be taught.
